Move Claude answers to Confluence
Turn a runbook or design note into an editable Confluence Cloud page, with a separate file when reviewers need the original.
To move an answer from Claude to Confluence, paste it into a Confluence Cloud page and check headings, tables, and code before publishing. For longer documents, use Word import. Attach a PDF for a review copy with a fixed layout. These steps cover Cloud, whose editor differs from Data Center.
Start with the answer your team will use
Find the final answer and check its prerequisites, commands, expected results, and rollback steps. Bring scattered details together in a complete draft before copying.
The export icon under a reply saves one answer. Export in the chat header saves the conversation. A debugging chat may include rejected commands, so save one Claude response to keep just the finished procedure.
Paste a draft into the Cloud editor
Confluence supports pasting web text with basic formatting. Select a short answer in your browser, copy it, and paste it into a blank page. For longer answers, use formatted Copy:
- Open the answer at claude.ai in Chrome on your computer.
- Open DocMyChat’s export menu under the reply.
- Choose Copy, labeled for Google Docs.
- Create a blank Confluence page in the intended space.
- Paste into the page body with Ctrl + V, or Command + V on a Mac.
- Compare the draft with the original answer before publishing.
The clipboard contains formatted text and Markdown. Try one heading, table, and command to see how Confluence handles them. If you have a lot to fix, switch to Word import.
Check headings, tables, and code separately
A bold line can look like a heading without being one. Apply the right heading level to each section title. Keep “Prerequisites,” “Deployment,” and “Rollback” below the page title in the hierarchy.
Click the table cells. If you see pipe characters and separator dashes, rebuild a small table with Confluence’s table controls, or try Word import for a larger one. Check every value against its column header.
Type /code in the Cloud editor to add a Code snippet. Paste your code and select its language. Atlassian’s instructions explain syntax highlighting. If code arrives as colored text, move it into a snippet.
Compare indentation, quotation marks, and line breaks with the original. Keep runnable scripts as files too: download Claude’s artifacts and attach the relevant script alongside its explanation.
DocMyChat typesets math in PDF, so use a PDF review copy when a formula’s appearance matters. Check images after pasting or importing, and upload missing files separately.
Use Markdown shortcuts to repair a draft
Confluence Cloud has Markdown formatting shortcuts, such as typing ## followed by a space for a heading. Pasting a whole Markdown document may still leave you with plain text.
The Insert → Markup → Markdown menu in older instructions belongs to the legacy editor. It isn’t available in a new Cloud page.
Keep a Markdown copy of the conversation if your team uses that format. If your site has a documented Markdown importer or installed app, follow its instructions. Otherwise, import Word or paste the content and fix the formatting.
Import Word or attach a review copy
Export the reply to Word for real headings, tables, and code formatting, then import it as editable Confluence content:
- Start a blank page.
- Open More actions beside Share.
- Select Templates and import.
- Open the Import tab.
- Choose Word document (.docx).
- Select the file and choose Open.
- Select Finish after import.
Check imported images and shapes for conversion problems. See Atlassian’s import instructions if the controls have moved.
To keep a separate review document, drag the exported .docx or PDF onto the page you’re editing. Atlassian’s file upload instructions cover attachments. Say whether the file is the approved version or background material.
Publish a runbook with enough context to maintain it
Suppose your chat produced a PostgreSQL connection-pool runbook. Make the symptoms, diagnostic commands, thresholds, and rollback procedure the page’s main content. Attach the exploratory discussion separately only if it helps explain the chosen thresholds.
Add the chat URL, export date, service owner, and review status. For example: “Prepared from the connection-pool investigation on November 2, 2026. Owner: Platform. Command review pending.”
Remove credentials, customer records, and internal notes the page’s readers don’t need. Check commands against your actual environment. Before publishing, make sure you can explain the procedure without sending colleagues back through the chat.
Connect Claude to Atlassian for ongoing page work
Claude’s Atlassian MCP connector has tools to search, read, create, and update Confluence content using your existing Atlassian permissions. Use it when you regularly work on team documentation.
Find it under Customize → Connectors. On Team and Enterprise accounts, an owner must enable the connector for the organization. Claude’s connector setup guidance walks through the setup.
The connector works directly with Confluence content. DocMyChat gives you a file or clipboard copy to add yourself, without syncing later changes.
Questions
Can I paste a Mermaid diagram into Confluence?
If pasted Mermaid source stays as text, use the diagram app your Confluence site provides. You can also attach a PDF or Word export: DocMyChat draws Mermaid diagrams as pictures in those formats.
Why can’t I see the file upload option?
You need the space’s Add Attachments permission to upload files, as Atlassian’s upload guide explains. If the controls are missing, ask the space administrator to check your permission.
Will changing my local Word file update the attachment?
No. Changes to the source file don’t update an attachment. Upload the revised file when you want colleagues to have the new copy.
Can I export every chat into the space at once?
DocMyChat exports one chat or reply at a time. Save and review each conversation separately before adding it to the space.
