How to send a Claude chat by email

Choose a short message, a document the recipient can keep, or a view-only chat link — then check exactly what you’re sending.

Coming soon to ChromeHow it works

To send a Claude chat by email, paste a short answer into Gmail or Outlook, attach a document, or add a share link. Choose PDF for a finished report and Word for edits. Check whether the link is public or limited to invited people.

Choose what the recipient needs to do

Put a short scheduling proposal in the message body. Send a six-page analysis as a file the recipient can review and keep.

When sending a summary and a file, identify the attachment as the full review copy.

Paste a short answer into Gmail or Outlook

Copy and paste a few lines by hand. For formatted content, DocMyChat’s Copy option puts formatted text and Markdown on the clipboard:

  1. Open the chat at claude.ai in Chrome on your computer.
  2. Click the extension’s export icon under the answer you want to send.
  3. Choose Copy, labeled for Google Docs.
  4. Open a new message in Gmail or Outlook.
  5. Paste into the message body.
  6. Add an introduction for the recipient.

In Gmail’s compose window, open More options and turn off Plain text mode. Use Formatting options to repair the text. Google’s message-formatting help explains both controls.

New Outlook uses HTML by default. Check Settings → Mail → Compose and reply → Message format if you need to change it. In classic Outlook, choose Format Text → HTML in the message window. Microsoft explains the formats and controls.

Check bold text, lists, links, table columns, and images after pasting. Repair short lists in the compose window. Use a PDF for formulas or layouts that must stay intact: the recipient’s email program may turn HTML into plain text.

Attach a PDF for a finished deliverable

PDF keeps the page layout, typeset formulas, highlighted code, and ordinary clickable links. Use it for a finished client report.

  1. Open the export menu for the reply or whole chat.
  2. Choose PDF.
  3. Select Save as PDF in Chrome’s print dialog.
  4. Open the saved file and check its pages.
  5. Attach that file to your email.

In Gmail, choose Attach, select the file, and click Open, following Google’s attachment instructions. In Outlook on the web, use Attach → Browse this computer, then select the file and click Open. Microsoft’s attachment guide explains file copies and OneDrive links.

Export just the final response when the client only needs your recommendation. See saving a Claude chat as PDF for the full steps.

Send Word when you want revisions

Choose Word for an editable .docx that downloads immediately, then attach it as you did the PDF. It has real headings, lists, tables, and editable Word equations. See the Word export guide for details.

Ask for specific changes: “Please edit the assumptions and delivery dates.” If you attach both formats, label Word as the editable draft and PDF as the reference.

As of November 2026, public links are available on Free, Pro, Max, and Ultra plans. Anyone with the link can read the chat without an account. Team and Enterprise sharing stays inside the organization.

A public link shows a snapshot. Later messages stay private unless you update it, and files you attached to the chat are left out. Review the snapshot before copying its link into your email.

Use a link when the back-and-forth matters. See our guide to sharing Claude chats for access details.

Invite a specific person directly from Claude

To have Claude email an invitation to specific people, open Share on claude.ai, enter addresses under People with access, then click Send. Each person gets a link by email.

A free Claude account is enough to view the snapshot. Team and Enterprise invitations stay within the organization. Use a file to send an internal chat’s finished answer to an outside client.

To include later messages, select Update shared chat in the sharing dialog. Review the new snapshot before updating it for everyone with access.

Connect Gmail or a work Outlook account to Claude

Through Google Workspace connectors, Claude can draft and send Gmail messages, normally after your approval. The Microsoft 365 connector supports work Outlook accounts and can send when an admin enables write tools. Personal Outlook accounts aren’t supported. These connections are separate from DocMyChat’s file and clipboard exports.

Check the client copy before sending

Suppose a supplier comparison chat includes negotiating limits and rough cost assumptions. Export just the recommendation and comparison table, check the figures against your sources, and attach that result.

Before sending:

  1. Confirm the recipients and subject line.
  2. Remove internal notes and earlier rejected recommendations.
  3. Leave Include Claude’s thinking off, which is the default.
  4. Turn off Include artifacts if the client doesn’t need the appendix.
  5. Open the attachment or shared snapshot you selected.
  6. State what you need the recipient to review or decide.

For example: “Attached is the supplier comparison dated November 2. Please review the delivery assumptions in section two before we choose a vendor.”

Questions

Why does the recipient see **You need access**?

With an invitation to specific people, the recipient must sign in with the exact email address you invited. Ask them to check their account. A different work or personal address won’t have access through that invitation.

Can I forward a shared-chat invitation to someone else?

An invitation link only works for the invited address, so ask the owner to add the other person. Anyone who receives a public link can open it, including someone you forward it to.

Why did Gmail turn my PDF attachment into a Drive link?

Gmail uses a Drive link when attachments exceed the account’s sending limit: 25 MB for personal Gmail accounts, or the limit set by a Workspace administrator for work and school. Check who can open the linked file before sending.

Does deleting the Claude chat recall an emailed document?

No. A downloaded PDF or Word attachment is a separate copy. Deleting the chat stops its shared link, but it does not remove a document already sent to someone.
