Share a Claude chat in Slack
Put the useful answer in the channel, then add a link or file when your colleagues need the context.
To share a Claude chat in Slack, paste its share link, copy the useful reply into a message, or upload a PDF or Word file. Use a link for context, a short message for a decision, and a file when people need a dated copy.
Post a link with a clear request
Create the link from Claude’s Share menu using the chat-sharing guide. Paste it into Slack with a specific request: “Please check the retry recommendation in the final answer.”
Slack channel membership doesn’t grant access to the Claude chat:
- A public Claude link opens for anyone who has it, without a Claude account.
- An email invitation requires the recipient to sign in with the invited address.
- Team and Enterprise chat sharing stays inside the Claude organization. An external colleague in your Slack channel may therefore be unable to open it.
Use a file you’re permitted to share when recipients can’t use the link. For access errors, follow the share-link troubleshooting guide.
Paste one reply and repair the formatting
For a short answer, select the text on claude.ai and copy it.
- Paste the answer into Slack’s message field.
- Remove material the channel doesn’t need.
- Say whether it’s Claude’s wording or your edited summary.
- Use the formatting toolbar to repair lists and code.
- Read the draft before sending it.
Slack’s formatting toolbar supports bold, lists, inline code, and code blocks. Select multiline commands and apply Code block. Keep explanations outside the block.
With Format messages with markup enabled under Preferences → Advanced, pasted messages appear as plain text, with formatting applied after sending. Slack’s markup rules use a single asterisk on each side for bold and backticks for code. A Markdown reply may need adjustments to display properly.
Check the column labels and row count of each pasted table. If you see pipes or misaligned text, rewrite a few rows as labeled bullets or attach a document. Attach essential screenshots separately, with captions.
For a finished answer you want to keep as a document, use the single-reply export instead of copying the whole conversation.
Upload a PDF or Word copy
Choose PDF for reading and Word for editing. DocMyChat exports either format from claude.ai in Google Chrome on desktop. It saves one conversation or one reply at a time.
- Open the conversation you want to send.
- Click Export beside Share, or the export icon beneath one reply.
- Choose PDF or Word.
- For PDF, select Save as PDF in Chrome’s print dialog.
- Open the saved file to inspect its contents.
- Drag the file into the correct Slack channel’s message field.
- Add the document name and review request.
- Send the message.
The Word export downloads immediately as a .docx file. For print settings, see the PDF export guide. Slack’s guide covers dragging files into the message field or adding them with the plus icon.
Both exports keep real tables, formatted code, and images you uploaded or Claude delivered as files. PDF typesets formulas, while Word keeps them as editable equations. Very large images may be omitted from a PDF, with a warning from the extension. Inspect the table, formula, or chart that matters before uploading.
The saved document won’t update when you continue chatting. Label replacements clearly and explain the change in your Slack message.
Build an incident handoff people can act on
Suppose you used Claude to explore an API timeout and need to hand off the investigation to the next shift. The conversation includes several discarded explanations.
A hypothetical handoff could read:
Incident 482 handoff: the timeout’s cause is still unconfirmed. Claude suggested checking connection-pool exhaustion next. Please review that hypothesis against the logs before changing the pool size. The attached PDF contains the exchange behind this suggestion.
Attach a file named incident-482_claude-handoff_2026-11-03.pdf. Keep confirmed observations, Claude’s suggestions, and the next person’s task distinct. A tentative answer shouldn’t look like an approved instruction.
If someone asks how you ruled out another explanation, add the share link with the relevant context. Internal logs may need a narrower audience than the incident announcement.
Check who can read the channel
In Slack, public-channel messages and files are searchable by workspace members. Private-channel search results are limited to people in that channel. A Slack Connect channel can include people from other organizations.
Before posting, review the prompts and answer. Look for customer details, internal URLs, access tokens, and material copied from another project. Export just the reply when the preceding discussion isn’t appropriate for everyone present.
A public Claude link remains public even when you paste it into a private Slack channel. Recipients can forward it. Turning sharing off disables the Claude link, but it can’t recall screenshots or copies someone already made. Review pasted text and uploaded documents too.
Ask Claude inside Slack with Claude Tag
As of November 2026, Anthropic’s Slack integration is Claude Tag, available in beta on Team and Enterprise plans. It replaced the earlier Claude in Slack experience. You can tag @Claude in configured channels, use direct messages, or open the assistant panel.
Setup requires a Primary Owner or Owner in the Claude organization. A Claude Admin role alone isn’t enough. The setup guide also requires a Slack workspace admin for pairing and says installation usually needs that role too.
Claude Tag handles new work inside Slack. DocMyChat handles saved copies of work from claude.ai. Sharing a file through the steps above doesn’t require the integration.
Questions
Will Slack’s link preview show the whole Claude chat?
Don’t rely on the preview to communicate the answer. Slack previews depend on the page’s metadata and access, among other factors. Add your own description and have recipients open the link.
Why can’t I upload the exported file?
Slack restricts some uploads, including in some Slack Connect conversations and for Frontline Members. Ask a workspace owner or admin if uploading is unavailable in that channel.
Where can colleagues find the attachment later?
Open the channel’s Files & links tab, then search or browse for it. Slack’s file guide describes this view on desktop and mobile. Give the file a recognizable project name before uploading.
Does the attachment include a Claude Doc or slide deck?
Published Claude Docs and decks appear in a DocMyChat export as titled links. Their content isn’t included. Export the document or deck separately when colleagues need that deliverable too.
