Choose by what you need to edit or keep
A lab report needs more from a Word export than a meeting summary. DocMyChat writes formulas as native Office Math, so you can edit the expression. Real heading styles, tables, and lists help you turn the answer into a longer document.
Backrun advertises Word output and formatted code. For mathematical work, try editing a sample equation. Make sure Word lets you change the expression itself, rather than move an image or edit formula text.
Our PDF export gives readers typeset formulas, page numbers, and wrapped long code lines. It opens a clean preview and Chrome’s print dialog. Choose Save as PDF to finish saving.
Imagine a debugging chat with three revisions of parser.py, a diagram, and an explanation. The transcript keeps the decisions, while source files let you reuse the code. The flat ZIP holds the newest version of each artifact or generated file. The document appendix includes artifacts and version counts.
Keep both for the explanation and the code. The ZIP does not duplicate earlier drafts. Interactive widgets still need the chat: the document marks where they appeared and directs readers back to use them.
The appendix and ZIP leave out slide HTML and JSON used only to build a published deck. A Claude Doc or deck published as an artifact gets a titled link where it was created, without its content. Use Claude’s own Export when you need that content.
Choose DocMyChat if you need editable Word equations or generated source files alongside the chat.
When Claude Exporter is the better fit
Backrun’s export guide describes sending content to a chosen Notion database and creating a Google Docs file in Drive. Filters let you choose prompts only, answers only, or the full exchange.
These controls help when useful answers are scattered through unrelated work. Choose the passages you need, but keep questions that explain an answer’s conditions. A shorter document still needs context.
The listing advertises font family, size, and text-color controls. Try your preferred settings on a page with code and a table, then check the result.
Our Google Docs workflow uses the clipboard: select Copy, then paste. It does not create a connected database entry or sync documents automatically. Formulas arrive as LaTeX text in Google Docs, so math needs more work.
The Claude Exporter alternatives guide covers other combinations of formats and destinations.
Choose backrun’s tool if you need selected passages, typography controls, or direct Google Docs and Notion exports.
Check the allowance and destination accounts
Backrun’s free quotas conflict. The store listing says 10 full-conversation exports and 15 single-message exports per month. The pricing page says 5 and 7 per month. Check the allowance inside the extension before planning your workload around either figure.
The pricing page offers one month for $8 or one year for $48, renewed manually. Check the checkout terms for your chosen period.
Notion’s plan requirements also conflict. The help page calls Notion a paid feature in several places, while a free-plan block says all formats plus Notion. Confirm which plan gives you Notion access before preparing a database export.
Backrun advertises use without a separate extension account. Its guide still requires Google sign-in for Google Docs and Notion authorization through OAuth. Check your selected destination account and the access you are granting.
Our extension is free to install, and Markdown, Copy, and artifact downloads are always free. Check the product page for PDF and Word terms when setting your budget.
Read the processing statements together
The store listing says processing stays entirely in the browser. Backrun’s privacy policy says most formats are converted locally, but also describes conversion requests sent to servers and deleted after processing. It mentions a conversion service without mapping it clearly to each format.
These statements conflict. Ask the developer which formats use the conversion service before exporting material covered by workplace rules.
Our extension builds documents in the browser, with no DocMyChat server receiving chats. It reads only the chat being exported, when you open its menu or popup, using your existing claude.ai session. It needs no extension account and has no analytics or tracking.
Before sharing, check the document for names, prompts, or uploaded material you meant to keep private, even if it was created locally. Export one reply when that is all the recipient needs.
How we compared
We publish DocMyChat and use its maintained product facts for its features. We compared backrun’s exact Chrome listing, export guide, pricing, and privacy policy. We did not install the competing extension, test its fonts or connected destinations, time exports, or compare rendered files.
Try a conversation with a table, a formula, and a source file. Check equation editing, selected messages, and artifact contents in your editor. For a connected destination, confirm which account received the export.
Questions
Can I include Claude’s thinking in a DocMyChat export?
Turn on Include Claude’s thinking in the export menu if the recipient needs it. It is off by default. Thinking is set apart before the answer and appears as a quoted block in Markdown.
Which branch does DocMyChat save after I retry an answer?
The branch you have on screen. Select the reply you want to keep before opening the export menu.
Can I convert one copied answer without installing an extension?
Yes. Paste it into the free Markdown to Word or Markdown to PDF converter. Both run in your browser and suit an answer you have already copied.
