Claude Exporter vs AI Chat Exporter

Start with the output you need, then compare the allowances, billing periods, and processing route for that format.

Choose Claude Exporter for Word exports or direct delivery to Google Docs and Notion. Choose AI Chat Exporter for Markdown, TXT, JSON, CSV, or image exports. Both advertise PDF export and message selection, so compare allowances and processing for the output you need.

Match the name to the right extension

This comparison covers Claude Exporter by backrun and AI Chat Exporter from ai-chat-exporter.net. Backrun also offers a different product named AI Chat Exporter, so use these exact listings.

The table shows advertised options. Formatting still depends on the output and the app where you open it.

The backrun guide explains its filters and destinations. AI Chat Exporter’s website lists its six output formats.

Choose by the work you need next

Backrun’s product page emphasizes editable documents. Its guide describes creating a file in Google Drive or an item in a chosen Notion database. That fits a report you’ll revise with colleagues. Answers-only filtering can remove revision requests from a reading copy. Keep any prompt that supplies essential context.

AI Chat Exporter suits notes and data. Choose Markdown for a compatible editor, or CSV or JSON for an app that accepts them. Its listing also describes range selection and images embedded in Markdown. Keep the full transcript separately when extracting turns for analysis so you can return to the original question and follow-up corrections.

Math needs a separate decision. AI Chat Exporter’s website promises formula preservation, while backrun says formula inclusion depends on the format. A fraction that looks right in a PDF does not confirm that it will be editable in Word. For calculations you’ll revise in Word, try editing one in its equation editor.

Compare quotas and billing periods

As of November 3, 2026, backrun’s published free allowances still conflict:

  • Its Chrome listing gives 10 full-conversation and 15 single-message exports per month.
  • Its pricing page gives 5 full-conversation and 7 single-message exports per month.

Read the allowance inside the extension before planning around either set. Its help describes separate full-chat and single-message counters that reset each calendar month. They are not interchangeable.

Backrun’s paid plans allow unlimited conversions at $8 for one month or $48 for one year, with manual renewal. The plans do not renew automatically.

Information about Notion access also conflicts. Backrun’s help page describes Notion as a paid feature but includes it in the free-plan block on the same page. Confirm access before relying on the free tier.

AI Chat Exporter’s pricing lists three free PDFs daily. Starter allows 30 PDFs daily at $1.98 per month, billed yearly. Standard allows 100 PDFs daily at $2.98 per month, also billed yearly.

When comparing the charges, distinguish a one-month purchase from a monthly equivalent that requires annual billing.

AI Chat Exporter’s listing says other formats are unlimited and permanently free. If you mostly save Markdown, a larger PDF allowance may add nothing to your routine.

If you need six PDFs for a Friday deadline, a three-per-day allowance will not cover that day’s work. A monthly allowance may cover the batch if enough exports remain. Allow for another export after correcting a table or changing the selected replies.

Check processing for the format you choose

AI Chat Exporter’s privacy policy states that PDF content goes to its backend, is processed in memory, and is discarded afterward. Other formats are generated locally in the browser. The policy separately covers account and usage information, so local conversation processing does not mean no information is collected.

Backrun’s listing says conversion stays entirely in Chrome. Its privacy policy says most formats are local and describes temporary server conversion requests. These statements conflict. If local processing is required, ask which route your chosen format uses before exporting confidential material.

Direct delivery is separate from conversion. Sending a document to Drive or Notion places it in that service even if it was built locally. Choose a downloaded file for a copy on your computer, or review the destination access you grant for direct delivery.

Where DocMyChat fits

We make DocMyChat, a third option for saving claude.ai conversations in desktop Chrome. It builds documents in the browser without requiring an extension account or sending chats to a DocMyChat server. Its Word files contain native Office Math equations you can edit.

Export one chat or one reply as Word, PDF, Markdown, formatted clipboard content, or an artifact ZIP. The ZIP is flat and keeps the latest artifact files. Claude Docs and decks published as artifacts appear as titled links without their content. Slide HTML and JSON written only to build a published deck are omitted from the ZIP and appendix.

PDF uses Chrome’s print dialog. The extension does not offer TXT, CSV, JSON, or image exports. Bulk chat export and automatic sync are also unavailable. Clipboard formulas reach Google Docs as LaTeX text. It is free to install, and Markdown, Copy, and artifact downloads are always free.

Consider it for native Word equations or local document creation. The Word export guide explains the workflow.

Try a sample before buying

Suppose you have a 20-message project-planning chat. The last three replies contain a schedule, cost table, and formula. You need a PDF for a client and an editable copy for next week’s revisions.

  1. Pick a short, nonconfidential conversation with those elements.
  2. Select the same replies in each extension, including the prompt that explains the figures.
  3. Export a PDF from each and compare the first and last lines, table columns, formula symbols, and page breaks.
  4. Create the second output you need: Word or Google Docs for document editing, or Markdown, CSV, or JSON for another app.
  5. Open it, make a real revision, and note any cleanup needed and the remaining allowance.

If the working copy belongs in Google Docs, backrun’s direct delivery may save a transfer. If your records need Markdown or structured data, AI Chat Exporter’s advertised formats fit that task. Keep the sample files to judge the handoff.

Questions

Is either extension made by Anthropic?

No. Backrun’s listing and AI Chat Exporter’s listing describe independent third-party products. Check the publisher domain as well as the extension name before installing.

Can AI Chat Exporter save the files inside a Claude Project?

Its Claude-specific listing advertises exporting Project files as a ZIP or combining them into one Markdown or TXT file. That is a separate task from saving the messages in a conversation.

Should I choose CSV or JSON for further analysis?

Choose the format your next app accepts. Open a sample first to see how prompts, answers, and multiline text are represented. A structured file still needs review before you combine it with other records.

Will the downloaded PDF change when I continue the chat?

Treat the downloaded PDF as a snapshot. Save another copy after substantial changes and date the filename so the recipient knows which version to read.
