DocMyChat vs AI Exporter: which fits your work?
Choose by the assistants you use and the files you need to keep. Compare document formats, generated files, processing, and cost.
Choose AI Exporter for one export workflow across Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and other assistants. Choose DocMyChat for Claude work that needs native Word equations or the latest generated artifact files. For a PDF or Markdown transcript, compare the file you’ll use and where its conversion happens.
This comparison covers the saveai.net extension, the same product in our alternatives guide. We publish DocMyChat.
Compare the files you actually need
The publisher’s website lists its supported assistants and formats. Compare scope first, then what each download contains.
| Need | DocMyChat | AI Exporter |
|---|---|---|
| Supported chats | claude.ai in desktop Chrome | Several assistants, including Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini |
| Formats and destinations | PDF, Word, Markdown, formatted Copy, artifact ZIP | PDF, Word, Markdown, TXT, JSON, images, Notion |
| Equations | Native Office Math in Word, typeset equations in PDF, LaTeX in Markdown | Advertises formula preservation. Check editing in the Word file |
| ZIP contents | Latest versions of ordinary artifacts and generated source files | Optional image bundle with Markdown |
| Selection | One open chat or one reply | Whole chats, selected messages, and collected messages from several chats |
| PDF processing | Browser preview and Chrome’s print dialog | Server rendering, according to its extension policy |
The store listing describes formula preservation and the image ZIP.
Choose TXT if your next tool asks for plain text, or JSON for a structured file. Our extension offers neither. Consider Word for a report you’ll revise or PDF for a reading copy you’ll send unchanged.
Choose Word for equations you will edit
A formula can look correct without being editable. Click inside a fraction in the exported Word document and change its numerator. Moving or resizing a picture won’t do that job.
DocMyChat converts formulas to native Word equations, called Office Math. It also produces real heading styles, lists, and tables.
- Open the Claude conversation in Chrome on your computer.
- Click Export beside Share, or the export icon under one reply.
- Choose Word to download the
.docx. - Open it in Word and edit a formula in a working copy.
The competing listing advertises LaTeX preservation and Word output. Apply the same equation check to its file.
The formatted Copy route puts formulas into Google Docs as LaTeX text. Follow the Word equation guide when you need to revise the math.
Keep image bundles and source files separate
The competing listing’s optional image ZIP bundles conversation images when saving Markdown. That helps with charts or screenshots. It serves a different purpose from source files you’ll edit or run.
DocMyChat’s artifact ZIP holds the latest version of each ordinary artifact or generated file. Three revisions of analysis.py produce one current file. The archive is flat, with no folders: src/analysis.py becomes src analysis.py. Rebuild the intended folder structure before using the files as a project. The artifact download guide covers that route.
With Include artifacts enabled, ordinary artifacts also appear in an appendix in PDF, Word, and Markdown. Read code beside the discussion there, or use the ZIP for separate files.
Published Claude Docs and decks appear as titled links, without their contents. Slide HTML and JSON written only to build a published deck are omitted from the appendix and ZIP. Keep the published deliverable separately from its surrounding conversation.
When the multi-assistant workflow is better
AI Exporter has a clear advantage when your work moves between assistants. Its website names Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, DeepSeek, Grok, and others. You can keep a shared export routine across those services instead of changing tools for each conversation.
Its collection guide describes combining messages from different chats and models:
- Add useful messages to the sidebar from the supported chats.
- Open Preview All at the bottom of the sidebar.
- Use the checkboxes to keep the messages you need.
- Export the combined selection or send it to Notion.
That fits a research packet assembled from several conversations. Keep enough of each prompt to make the answers understandable, especially when two assistants interpreted the question differently. A combined file should still make clear which answer supports which part of your work.
Our extension exports one Claude chat or reply at a time, with no automatic sync. If you need only a finished response from each service, the native export comparison explains their separate document routes.
Where processing happens
DocMyChat builds documents in the browser, with no conversion server receiving chats. It needs no separate account and has no analytics or tracking. PDF opens a preview and Chrome’s print dialog, where you choose Save as PDF.
The competing extension privacy policy says Word, Markdown, TXT, JSON, and image files are generated locally. Account checks and usage reporting can still occur, including Google Analytics usage events. Local conversion does not mean no network activity.
For PDF export, it sends selected content and rendering options to its backend. Under normal operation, generated PDFs are deleted about 5–7 minutes after their filename timestamp and uploaded images about 30–35 minutes after upload. Cleanup failures can delay deletion, and intermediate rendering data is handled separately. Notion delivery sends selected content directly to Notion and the upload service designated by Notion.
Both products describe local Word generation. Their PDF routes differ, so compare the format you’ll actually use.
Compare the free tier with your workload
As of November 3, 2026, the AI Exporter pricing page lists free Markdown, JSON, and TXT exports. The free daily allowances are three PDFs, eight Word exports, and eight Notion exports.
Pro costs $5.88 per month or $46.56 per year. The annual plan’s advertised $3.88 monthly figure is the equivalent of annual billing. Both paid options list unlimited PDF, Word, and Notion exports.
Our extension is free to install. Markdown, Copy, and artifact downloads are always free. See the product page for current PDF and Word terms.
Count the exports you make on a busy day, including new copies after revisions. A few weekly downloads and a day spent preparing twenty documents are different workloads, even if the monthly total is similar.
Try one representative deliverable
Imagine preparing a training handout with research notes from Gemini, a Claude explanation containing fractions, and a Python script revised twice. You need a reading packet, an editable explanation, and working code. Those are three distinct outputs.
The multi-assistant collection suits the reading packet. For the Claude explanation, compare Word files by editing a fraction and checking the table. For the script, open the downloaded source file in your editor and confirm it contains the revision you intend to use.
Use the same Claude messages when comparing document exports. Read the first and last messages, inspect the widest table, and follow an ordinary source link. Name the final files by their role, such as training-notes.pdf, calculation.docx, and analysis.py.
Keep a cover note naming the source chats and what you accepted from each. Restore any folder names flattened during ZIP export before checking imports. Keep the original transcript alongside the handout so later edits aren’t confused with the assistant’s answer.
Questions
Can I use either extension in Firefox?
DocMyChat requires desktop Google Chrome. The AI Exporter website links to a Firefox version as well as Chrome and Edge versions. Check the version for your browser before transferring your workflow.
Does the date in a DocMyChat file show when the conversation happened?
It shows the export date. Add the conversation date separately if you need it for a record. The meta line includes the model only when it is known.
Does DocMyChat combine retried answers into one transcript?
No. It exports the branch currently displayed on claude.ai. Select the answer you want before exporting, and save other branches separately if you need them.
Will a downloaded file update after another reply?
A downloaded file is a saved copy. DocMyChat has no automatic sync, so export again after continuing the chat and give the new copy a distinct name.
Are DocMyChat’s Markdown images saved inside the file?
No. Markdown contains image links that open while you’re signed in to claude.ai. Save the image files separately when you need an offline copy.
